I'm submitting this piece to a contest. wish me luck. :)
the development sketch done in photoshop. I will be traditionally painting this piece on a huge canvas. This will be the largest painting I have ever done. :)

The interpretation of this piece is: the human female figure to me is the most beautiful thing in nature. Mother nature. Men are the hunter gatherers and are usually depicted as predatory animals.

Well, this piece will be from a series of works for natures mistake.
In my opinion, humans are natures mistake, and essentially the piece depicts mankind as predatory animals preying and ready to destroy and devour mother nature.
The animals in the piece are ethereal manifestations of the ravenous human spirit of destruction and disrespect for nature. Real animals would never dream of harming mother nature.

Hopefully this meaning is evident in the art.

As a nerd, I know first hand, what nerdlife really is. And, well, nerds love hot nerd chicks.

After long discussions over this design, I chose to illustrate a hot nerd girl with her lil business suit and glasses. Clothes coming off of course, 'cause what nerd doesn't fantasize about the hot office chick seducing him.

The story of Leftyjoe!!!

Leftyjoe is an emerging LA artist who's goal is to reach the hearts and minds of the world over.
Leftyjoe: "Art has touched my life so profoundly, and as an artist, I hope that my art can continue to touch more and more people."

Born in an affluent community the Federal district of Mexico city, Leftyjoe came to live in the U.S with some family members hoping to attain that dream that people the world over strive for. The American dream.

Well, Leftyjoe has been living his dream with the support of his family, friends and very supportive acquaintances.

Leftyjoe began his career very early. Instead of selling lemonade in front of his childhood home, Leftyjoe had a cute lil stand, where he sold "Drawings on demand"
Neighbors would walk buy and stop and melt at the sight of a six year old who claimed to be able to draw anything. At the customer's request, lil six year old Leftyjoe would draw the requested artwork for a few bucks.

Leftyjoe could not stop creating works of art throughout his young life. From special art classes as a kid to nearly failing highschool all together because art was just way more important to him than homework.
Leftyjoe went to a community college and took some naked people drawing classes, and a few other art related classes, but in 2001 he was diagnosed with a very virulent strain of cancer. Testicular cancer.
Cancer would not be an obstacle for the artist. He continued to draw even though his body had lil strength at times. Chemotherapy and two major surgeries that left him scared across his entire mid section also seemed not to put a stop to Leftyjoe's art.
By the way, he wasn't always called "Lefty"
Because his left testicle had to be removed due to the cancer, his college buddies dubbed him "Lefty"

Leftyjoe was a screen name he chose for a site, and the name just stuck.

Leftyjoe later worked at the L.A zoo as a caricature artist. You know, caricatures in layman's terms (the guys at theme parks that draw your face all funny)

At the L.A zoo, caricatures actually brought him great job opportunities. LA being the entertainment mecca that it is, is filled with people who work in that field.
Often visitors to the zoo would offer creative work to the artists.
There he was given a chance to work as an freelance illustrator for the Wayans Brothers, and later working in house full time for their merchandising company landing Leftyjoe's first in-house/full time art job.
With that company, Leftyjoe learned a great deal. His projects soon became more than just illustration for a series of books. He was given graphic design work, product packaging and label design. Also product design and toy design, storyboard re-visioning, and even some animation.

Later Leftyjoe went on to work as a character designer for a very popular humor entertainment website.
In it's hayday, liquidgeneration.com was one of the founding fathers of the internet entertainment revolution boasting the creation of the "Sabotage"
You know, that thing you got in your email that made you turn the volume way up in your computer, only to scare the living crap out of you!!!
At liquidgeneration.com Leftyjoe worked on various graphic design projects, even animated in flash quite a bit. But, later as the lead character designer, Leftyjoe really polished his chops.

While at his job, a friend (renowned illustrator Chuck BB) gave him the task to create a painting for an art show. Leftyjoe caught the fever, the painting fever.
Days later, (renowned toy designer/street artist/and all around awesome dude... Jack Rossi) invited Leftyjoe to [articipate in a gallery show. Well, from there on back in 2007, Leftyjoe didn't stop painting.

Getting laid off from his dream job as a character designer in 2008 he continued to paint. changing his career path to a full time painter. Going on to do show after show even curating some of his own.
He returned to caricatures at a theme park. Universal studios in Hollywood. But, was soon fired, lol.

Soon after his stint at Universal, Leftyjoe continued to paint and do shows. All the while, making a decent living with his hobby turned self-proprietorship; CARICATURES AT PARTIES!!! Having Leftyjoe entertaining at a party with live cartoon drawings of your guests!!!

As an independent and self employed artist, Leftyjoe has found much happiness and many good friendships he would not have made had he continued to sit at a computer from nine to five for an art studio.

Through his art shows, he has met with great opportunities. One such instance, his meeting of Matt Geiger, owner and founder of the hot L.A based apparel and merchandising company "NATURES MISTAKE"

Now Leftyjoe has partnered up with Matt G and Natures Mistake to further establish the brand's bad-ass status, ( with the help of many many wonderful people they've met along the way!!!)
Leftyjoe designs most of the brands tees. While still painting for art shows, and continuing to strive for the next art job, hopefully as a concept artist for a video game company!

A tribute to Frazetta's awesome fantasy art, mostly focusing on his big cats.

I personally have always loved Frazetta's art. It touches me in a primal and erotic place in my twisted imagination. I love the depictions of the brave hero and heroins and the eminent danger posed by some outlandish monster or villain!!! Wow, I can only dream of being in some sort of situation involving me, a lion cloth, a half naked hot chick, a spear, and a monster to slay.

Man, yesterday was the most awesome art day!!! I busted out these illustrations over the course of thwelve or more hours. :) I had to switch from my laptop to my desktop because the laptop got really hot? oh noes!!! Man, I loved working on this stuff!!!

I colored some old drawings, the cute lil african girl, the hottie pin up girl, the urban realistic looking batman concept, started on a ghost rider concept, and did a wolf logo for a friend. :)

Once again, Dia de los muertos is coming. and once again, the Pueblo Historical monument in Olvera street has invited me to participate in the Sacred memories show comemorating the Day of the Dead. I did this piece in january, specifically for this show in hopes to participate again this year.

During some down time at the art event on sunday, I had time do do this lil illo of my girlfriend Vanessa. I usually call her bossy bear, 'cause she is kinda bossy, but, I also think she looks like one of the bears from

You might have read about Natures Mistake earlier in some of our posts, but this time SoJones gets down to details with Matt Geiger, founder of the brand. Matt dishes about the origins of Natures Mistake, why they relate to people making mistakes and how they translate that to the uber-cool streetwear they are now. And guess what, Matt and his team actually huddled up and came up with something special for SoJones readers. Read on to find out!

Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
We are Natures Mistake, a team of strong minded people that live with the concept of “Do it yourself”, “Do it different”, “Do it better”. Our team is a group of talented individuals with a bit of platypus in each of us…..a bit of the black sheep, if you must. Realizing that we all make mistakes and if you’re not making any mistakes you’re not trying anything new. So this is where we were born, together here as a family , we are here to mix things up and take on the world. You’re either gonna love us or hate us but you’re still gonna wanna wear us.

Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration (examples: 80’s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70’s disco bands, Run DMC, etc)
We’ve got a little bit of 90’s rap mixed with a bit of 80’s punk, but it basically works best to expect the unexpected. We push out concepts and art until 3 of us like it and the other 2 feel uncomfortable with it. But do expect a few more strikes for premeditated brand slaughter on played out labels.

Can you tell the readers about the collaboration with SoJones?
What we wanted to do with SoJones was something unique, …something platypus, …something black sheep, …something Natures Mistake. We wanted to create a SoJones/Natures Mistake shirt. Not just a SoJones shirt and not just a Natures Mistake shirt but a collaboration of us together. We wanted a design, that when people see it, they want it!

Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
Not yet, but if you got some bring em on. The only celebrities wearing Natures Mistake are the ones who bought our shirts. So buying Natures Mistake = instant celebrity status. We have features on Thrillest and SoJones….Uh Baby Baby!!! Also, Big Up magazine, Juice magazine and we made the cover of Apparel News Weekly.

What has been a surprise fashion hit for you over the last year?
Downtown Deer has recycled for 4 seasons now. We keep re-inventing the bodies for it because the demand is so huge. Also the Dizzy line just keeps going strong. We are about to be refreshed with the release of Dizzy Dunce a.k.a. Daisy. It’s endless and the response has been crip bagel a.ka. super-dope-a-fresh-a-listic.

What apparel trends are you really feeling this year?
We’ve already seen the fannypack come back, so Natures Mistake is bringing back the pocket protector for sure! We’re also looking into the bow tie, wooden dentures, Natures Mistake merkins and a few other items that can’t be disclosed at this time.

What fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
We want to see all of the companies that pulled the biggest prank on the world. With their flock, foil, embroidery, water based ink and rhinestone shirts, that weigh 300lbs. Those are the companies that will end up throwing themselves overboard.

What is/was one of your own most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
My Vans gym bag that I got from my father. He purchased in the late 70’s. It’s so dope, or So Jones!

SALVATION ARMY COMPTON CORPS LAUNCHING NEW
HIP-HOP RECORDING STUDIO AT COMMUNITY CENTER

COMPTON--The Salvation Army Compton Corps Community Center is gearing up to host a grand opening celebration for its brand new, on-site, state-of-the-art hip-hop recording studio with a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication followed by a benefit hip-hop concert on Tuesday, June 15. The ribbon cutting will be held at 5:30 p.m., with the benefit concert, complete with red carpet entry, to follow from 6 to 8 p.m. The entire community is invited to attend and partake in the celebration.

In an effort to raise funds for the center, which offers the community a wide array of services at no or low-cost, entry to the concert is $5. Performing will be local hip-hop artists along with a few BIG names in hip-hop TBA.

In conjunction with this event, the corps and center will bid farewell to current Capts. Martin and Tory Ross with a special after party from 8 to 9 p.m. The Rosses have been reassigned to the Modesto Corps after seven years of dutiful work in Compton. Their last official day at the Compton Corps is June 27. On hand will be the new captains, who are slated to take over June 30.

The recording studio will be available to the entire community to rent out at nominal prices during the center's operating hours., as well as not advocate violence. The studio will augment the range of services and activities the center already offers, including a low-cost gym; a recently refurbished, NBA-regulation quality basketball court; after-school tutoring; summer day camp; a computer lab; a teen center; a weekly soup kitchen; free food distribution; low-cost counseling; parenting classes; debt-consolidation and financial literacy classes; weekly worship services and Bible study; and the recently launched Educated Ballers youth league basketball and tutoring.

So Leftyjoe and Natures Mistake continue to rip on the disney characters we all know. Disney parody zombie characters of Daisy and Pluto, just like the shirts you've all seen of Mickey, Minnie, donald and Goofy.

Man, these shirts look dope! People stop me on the street when I'm wearing my zombie mickey mouse shirt, it's cool, but it can get kinda annoying after a while.

Keep an eye on Natures Mistake, hot clothing line right out of LA.
