Natures mistake.

Matt Geiger, owner/designer/c.e.o/lord, doctor, phd, prince, fukin geiger... a man of many titles and many great ideas. He's the mastermind behind all of our most awesome shirts. I just do the art, he tells me what to draw. :) Perfect awesome tag team!!!
Everyone knows those praying hands, and we've all seen Han Cholo's "LA" hands, well, this is our answer to them all.

You might have read about Natures Mistake earlier in some of our posts, but this time SoJones gets down to details with Matt Geiger, founder of the brand. Matt dishes about the origins of Natures Mistake, why they relate to people making mistakes and how they translate that to the uber-cool streetwear they are now. And guess what, Matt and his team actually huddled up and came up with something special for SoJones readers. Read on to find out!

Introduce yourself and describe how your brand was started?
We are Natures Mistake, a team of strong minded people that live with the concept of “Do it yourself”, “Do it different”, “Do it better”. Our team is a group of talented individuals with a bit of platypus in each of us…..a bit of the black sheep, if you must. Realizing that we all make mistakes and if you’re not making any mistakes you’re not trying anything new. So this is where we were born, together here as a family , we are here to mix things up and take on the world. You’re either gonna love us or hate us but you’re still gonna wanna wear us.

Describe this season’s theme for your line. Include any sources of inspiration (examples: 80’s punk, muses like Amber Rose, 70’s disco bands, Run DMC, etc)
We’ve got a little bit of 90’s rap mixed with a bit of 80’s punk, but it basically works best to expect the unexpected. We push out concepts and art until 3 of us like it and the other 2 feel uncomfortable with it. But do expect a few more strikes for premeditated brand slaughter on played out labels.

Can you tell the readers about the collaboration with SoJones?
What we wanted to do with SoJones was something unique, …something platypus, …something black sheep, …something Natures Mistake. We wanted to create a SoJones/Natures Mistake shirt. Not just a SoJones shirt and not just a Natures Mistake shirt but a collaboration of us together. We wanted a design, that when people see it, they want it!

Any product placements on celebs to keep an eye out for (examples: publicity photos, magazines, movies, music videos etc)
Not yet, but if you got some bring em on. The only celebrities wearing Natures Mistake are the ones who bought our shirts. So buying Natures Mistake = instant celebrity status. We have features on Thrillest and SoJones….Uh Baby Baby!!! Also, Big Up magazine, Juice magazine and we made the cover of Apparel News Weekly.

What has been a surprise fashion hit for you over the last year?
Downtown Deer has recycled for 4 seasons now. We keep re-inventing the bodies for it because the demand is so huge. Also the Dizzy line just keeps going strong. We are about to be refreshed with the release of Dizzy Dunce a.k.a. Daisy. It’s endless and the response has been crip bagel a.ka. super-dope-a-fresh-a-listic.

What apparel trends are you really feeling this year?
We’ve already seen the fannypack come back, so Natures Mistake is bringing back the pocket protector for sure! We’re also looking into the bow tie, wooden dentures, Natures Mistake merkins and a few other items that can’t be disclosed at this time.

What fashion trend would you like to see thrown overboard?
We want to see all of the companies that pulled the biggest prank on the world. With their flock, foil, embroidery, water based ink and rhinestone shirts, that weigh 300lbs. Those are the companies that will end up throwing themselves overboard.

What is/was one of your own most prized fashion pieces, past or present?
My Vans gym bag that I got from my father. He purchased in the late 70’s. It’s so dope, or So Jones!
