SALVATION ARMY COMPTON CORPS LAUNCHING NEW
HIP-HOP RECORDING STUDIO AT COMMUNITY CENTER


COMPTON--The Salvation Army Compton Corps Community Center is gearing up to host a grand opening celebration for its brand new, on-site, state-of-the-art hip-hop recording studio with a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication followed by a benefit hip-hop concert on Tuesday, June 15. The ribbon cutting will be held at 5:30 p.m., with the benefit concert, complete with red carpet entry, to follow from 6 to 8 p.m. The entire community is invited to attend and partake in the celebration.

In an effort to raise funds for the center, which offers the community a wide array of services at no or low-cost, entry to the concert is $5. Performing will be local hip-hop artists along with a few BIG names in hip-hop TBA.

In conjunction with this event, the corps and center will bid farewell to current Capts. Martin and Tory Ross with a special after party from 8 to 9 p.m. The Rosses have been reassigned to the Modesto Corps after seven years of dutiful work in Compton. Their last official day at the Compton Corps is June 27. On hand will be the new captains, who are slated to take over June 30.

The recording studio will be available to the entire community to rent out at nominal prices during the center's operating hours., as well as not advocate violence. The studio will augment the range of services and activities the center already offers, including a low-cost gym; a recently refurbished, NBA-regulation quality basketball court; after-school tutoring; summer day camp; a computer lab; a teen center; a weekly soup kitchen; free food distribution; low-cost counseling; parenting classes; debt-consolidation and financial literacy classes; weekly worship services and Bible study; and the recently launched Educated Ballers youth league basketball and tutoring.
